Out and About
Croft View Cottage is situated in the picturesque village of Foolow with its much-photographed village green, medieval cross and duck pond, church and local pub.
Foolow is just 2 miles away from the historic village of Eyam, famous for isolating itself and losing many of its inhabitants during the plague.

Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Castleton, Bakewell to name but a few places of interest are all no more than 10 miles away.

There are many beautiful walks both from the doorstep and further a field. We have several walking books and OS maps of the area for use by guests
Some companies offer guided walks; Sally Mosley specialises in themed walks which include a "Chocolate Factory walk", a big hit with all members of the family! See www.sallymosley.co.uk for dates and details of how to book.
If you are keen to cycle during your stay, cycles can be hired and delivered to the cottage ; visit www.peak-tours.com for more details.
There are some good cycle trails in the area and bikes can also be hired from cycle centres on these routes.
In addition, we have two adult-sized mountain bikes available for use by guests but please bring your own helmets.

LOCAL SERVICES
Provisions are available in Eyam (2 miles away) where there is a good fruit and veg/general store, ‘Spar’ shop, post-office and bakery.
There are small supermarkets in neighbouring villages, while deliveries of pre-ordered food can be obtained from Peak District Foods online and there is an excellent and developing network of local delicatessan's including Coleman's Deli in Hathersage, Ibbotson's of Ashford, Castlegate Butcher's and Farmshop and of course Chatsworth Farmshop.
The nearest town with supermarket shopping and Farmer's Market is Bakewell, approximately 7 miles away although there are also good shops in Tideswell, which is only 4 miles away, including a Co-op, a good greengrocers, butcher and Tindall's, a great bakers-cum-Deli.
Whilst in Tideswell why not visit the Vanilla Kitchen cafe which serves quality home-made food in a family-friendly environment; look out for the children's "sing song"dates and other special events.
PLACES TO EAT
We are lucky enough to have a really good local pub that serves great pub food and the highest pub in Derbyshire, The Barrell, is a short walk away in Bretton but there are so many great places to eat in the Peak District that there's not enough space to list them all here. Please ask if there's anything that you are particularly keen to try.
